MJK Quilting Studio is co-owned by Michele Jiha and Jill Kerr. Our mission is to help people create beautiful works of art through fiber. We are involved with our local quilting guild to promote the art of quilting and participate in guild charity works.
I started quilting after my daughters graduated college and moved out of the house to start their adult lives. It was very hard not having them around all the time so I took this opportunity to learn how to quilt. I had always wanted to learn but was intimidated. I asked a close friend of mine to teach me and we sat in her living room and she taught me the log cabin piecing method. I was instantly in love and began taking all sorts of classes from local quilt shops. I loved the ladies, the fabric, the creativity, everything!!! To say I was hooked is an understatement -- I was OBSESSED! I met local quilters and soaked up their knowledge and began making my own quilts and playing with applique and embroidery. I love the endless possibilities a person has with quilting and I hope I can inspire others to join and create gorgeous beautiful art through quilting.
My mother taught me how to sew home décor items when I was a girl. The best present I ever received was a used 1940's black Singer for Christmas when I was 11. I still have that machine and use it regularly. In the mid 1990's, I discovered quilting. My sister-in-law and I made my first quilt, and I became a quilter for life. I like paper-piecing and designing new patterns. In 2014 I bought my first long arm. I love the freedom a longarm gives me to add beautiful, unique quilting to quilts. In 2019 I upgraded my longarm to a Gammill Vision. When I am not quilting, I am reading about quilting, or sleeping and dreaming about quilting!
